The Digital Evolution: Innovative Technology-Focused Postgraduate Degrees Launching At Middlesex University Dubai

Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai, the UAE campus of the renowned Middlesex University in London has introduced new interdisciplinary postgraduate programmes in Financial Technology and Legal Technology that aim to open doors within rapidly expanding technological spaces.

Furthering the institution’s commitment to nurturing innovation in the region and its dedication to staying ahead of technological trends, the degrees address crucial new growth areas that offer exciting career path opportunities upon graduation.

MSC FINANCIAL TECHNOLOGY

Fintech is not just a trend but a critical component of the UAE’s economic strategy. The government’s initiatives, such as the UAE Vision 2030 and the National Innovation Strategy, emphasise the importance of developing a robust fintech ecosystem.

MDX Dubai’s new MSc Financial Technology programme responds to the increasing need for specialised expertise, focusing on areas such as Blockchain Technology, AI and Machine Learning, Financial Markets, and Financial Data Analytics. The programme equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to competently take on an array of various financial technology roles, actively contributing to the technological advancement of financial services.

The hands-on programme provides a distinctive combination of practical and theoretical modules, delivered by fintech professionals and the university’s experienced faculty. It covers expert identification of emerging technology trends, assessment of digital resources, leadership in pioneering fintech innovations, and the ultimate goal of making financial services more streamlined and accessible than ever before.

Students are guided through how to construct their own financial applications and create solutions using the latest software, making this programme a valuable option for entrepreneurs in the financial app space.

Dr Pallavi Kishore, Associate Professor and Head of the Accounting and Finance Department said: “The launch of the MSc Financial Technology programme marks a significant milestone in the educational landscape of the UAE, aligning perfectly with the nation’s ambition to be at the forefront of digital transformation. As the financial sector rapidly evolves, driven by advancements in technology, the demand for professionals skilled in fintech is surging.”

MSC LEGAL TECHNOLOGY

Recognising the increasing intersection between law and technology and the increase of artificial intelligent (AI) being implemented within all sectors, the MSc Legal Technology programme offers a unique perspective on how to integrate and enhance legal theory with technological applications.

Aimed at law graduates, legal professionals, and IT/computing graduates, the expertly executed degree demonstrates how legal technology innovations are transforming the future of legal practice, and how technologies can be applied to different areas of the specialism.

Covering key technical aspects of cybersecurity, AI, privacy, and data protection in the legal realm, students are guided through how to enhance their research capabilities, streamline document workflows, and improve case management processes to result in better outcomes for clients and stakeholders. Students also get the chance to take part in enriching work placement experiences, and conclude their studies by compiling a substantial, evidence-based research report.

This degree ensures that legal professionals will gain valuable exposure to cutting-edge technologies, while IT and computing graduates will deepen their understanding of legal principles and practices. The programme is designed to be less coding-intensive, emphasising the practical use and application of technology within the legal field.

Dr Krishnadas Nanath, Associate Professor and Deputy Head of the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department said: “Enrolling in the newly launched MSc in Legal Technology will equip you with skills applicable to the practice of law, emphasising the integration of artificial intelligence. Taught by industry-leading experts, the programme covers a wide range of specialised tracks, providing you with a competitive advantage and opportunities to network with trusted partners. With a focus on practical skills, this comprehensive programme will prepare you for a successful career in the technology space within the legal and justice systems.”

Students studying for both degrees, which can be taken part time over two years or full time over one year, are also invited to utilise the vast array of resources and facilities offered at the recently opened MDX Innovation Hub.

Professor Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Middlesex University and Director of Middlesex University Dubai, said: “The UAE is keeping up when it comes to incorporating technology into education. As an early adaptor to AI and innovative technologies we cannot ignore the country’s impressive development, and the new additions to the MDX Dubai curriculum reflect the increasing needs of employers in the UAE and the rest of the world. Graduates of these revolutionary degrees will depart MDX Dubai with the skills and knowledge they need to develop new solutions, streamline the way we handle legal and financial transactions, and make a positive impact upon the world.”
