Renowned in the UK for providing exceptional performing arts education for more than 50 years, Urdang International has partnered with Kent College Dubai to launch a BTEC International Extended Diploma in Performing Arts – Musical Theatre and Dance in Dubai, making London’s West End training available to budding performers in the Middle East for the first time ever.
The London based, internationally operating academy is now taking applications for the full-time BTEC course which will launch in September 2020, and give students with passion, tenacity and ambition the opportunity to study and train to become a high-quality professional performer, teacher or creative. The brand-new course has been designed by both Urdang Academy and Kent College, both leading providers with a wealth of experience and global connections, as well as close ties with London’s West End, and a proven track record in preparing students for the entertainment industry around the world.
Solange Urdang, Director and CEO of Urdang International commented on the launch: “Through times of uncertainty we look to the arts for hope and happiness and this has never been more prevalent than this year, which is why we couldn’t be happier to be launching the Urdang International offering in the UAE for the first time this September, giving students a new pathway to a future of exciting opportunities. Partnering with Kent College, an existing market leader in performing arts in Dubai, is allowing us to offer second to none education to hopefuls in the UAE, and become a key part of the flourishing arts hub in Dubai that is becoming well-known around the world.”
Anthony Cashin, Principal of Kent College Dubai said: “We cannot wait to meet the fresh faces of talent who will become the first cohort of students to experience this very exciting opportunity. Urdang International is known around the world as a leader in performing arts education and for producing the best in performing arts talent, so Kent College is overjoyed to be collaborating with the Academy and to able to provide this offering to students in the UAE.”
The practical delivery of the course will be overseen by Urdang International to ensure that students in Dubai receive the same standard of world-class delivery as its flagship college in London. The BTEC course will give students the opportunity to enjoy the world-class facilities, multiple studios and teaching talent from both Kent College Dubai and Urdang International, and outstanding practical and academic support from both education institutes. The location will give students the opportunity to be independent, to build organisational skills to cope with a varied timetable, and the opportunity to develop self-management skills.
Entry requirements for the BTEC course include a GCSE in Drama, Dance and/or Music or the equivalent experience, English to be written and spoken at a sufficient level, and dance training in one or more disciplines.
