GEMS Jumeirah Primary School Wins Al Jalila Foundation Honour After Record Fundraising Effort

GEMS Jumeirah Primary School Wins Al Jalila Foundation Honour After Record Fundraising Effort

Despite all the challenges of the pandemic, the GEMS Jumeirah Primary School (JPS) community has raised the biggest sum for charity in its 24-year history to donate to the Al Jalila Foundation in Dubai, which supports important medical research.

Parents, carers, staff and students alike combined their efforts to raise AED 22,777 to mark Pink Day last month after decorating the whole school in pink with all teachers and children following suit.

JPS Principal/CEORachel Higgins and members of the school’s Parents and Teachers Association were invited to the Al Jalila offices where they were welcomed by Dr Abdulkareem Sultan Al Olama, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, and SulaimanBaharoun, Director of Partnerships and Sustainability.

After a tour of the research facilities, the school handed over the cheque. JPS is the first school to be recognised via a special ceremony in which two logos – GEMS JPS Family and GEMS JPS PTA – were engraved on the much-prized ‘Topaz’ section of Bassmat Rashid bin Saeed’s donor recognition wall in the Foundation building.

Dr Abdulkareem Sultan Al Olama said: “Since the launch of Al Jalila Foundation, we have had a wonderful partnership with GEMS Education and we are very proud to add the name of the first school to the Bassmat Rashid bin Saeed donor wall in recognition of JPS’ support during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“Every year we are inspired by the support we receive from schools, parents and children in raising awareness and funds for a disease that still impacts many lives.”

Rachel Higgins added: “We cannot thank our JPS community enough. This is just another example of how working with our parents allows us to go from strength to strength in every event we host. Our efforts could not have helped a better cause.”
