Curtin University Dubai Goes Beyond The Classroom To Fight COVID-19

Curtin University is a global university known for world-class education, industry-led curriculum and innovative teaching techniques. Following the Ministry of Higher Education’s precautionary measure of cancelling face-to-face classes in high-schools and universities for one month, Curtin University’s Dubai campus has stayed true to its highly ranked teaching commitment by stepping beyond the classroom.

In an effort to avoid any disruption for students and their study plans, Curtin Dubai will provide accessible online education for all its foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate students from March 8 to April 4, 2020. Due to its state-of-the art collaborative classrooms, the University is well-equipped to conduct interactive online lectures and tutorials that allow for a two-way communication between faculty and students, thus providing students the same engaging learning experience that they would witness in a usual classroom.

Students will also have seamless access to the online library resources and the Student Success Centre, allowing them to submit all assignments and to receive support with research, writing, and citation skills. In addition, students will be able to connect with supporting teams such as student services, finance, student life and the student visa department.

Martin Marquez, a third year student of Bachelor in Commerce in Finance and President of the Curtin Dubai Student Council, said, “This is a brilliant initiative that is being introduced by Curtin University Dubai. Students were initially apprehensive about missing classes during the trimester and having a delay in their study plans. However, Curtin Dubai’s flexible teaching methods allow us to continue with classes as usual, in a distance-learning set up.”

John Evans, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Curtin University Dubai, stressed on the importance of providing strong support to the student community. “It is imperative we keep the students as safe as possible from all health risks and at the same time protect their education interests. The University is working in every way possible to provide all the necessary protective measures towards both their health and education, without impacting their plans for graduation. Our faculty is well-equipped to manage such situations and are fully trained to provide successful distance learning to our students.”
