Bloom World Academy Leads The Way With First Artificial Intelligence (AI) BTEC Course In The UAE For Students Aged 14+

Bloom World Academy (BWA) is proud to announce the launch of its new comprehensive Artificial Intelligence (AI) BTEC qualification, a compulsory course designed for students aged 14 and above. BWA is the first school in the UAE to offer such a programme; an initiative at the forefront of innovative education, preparing students to navigatea world increasingly shaped by AI technologies.

From August 2024, AI will become a core component in the school’s curriculum for all students over the age of 14 (Grade 9). The BTEC course aims to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in AI, covering topics from ethical considerations to machine learning and real-world applications in various industries. The programme will be integrated with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, enhancing BWA’s existing Pathways and ensuring that students receive a dynamic and future-ready education.

Students studying the AI course will graduate with a BTECInternational Level 3 Specialist Award in Artificial Intelligence: a globally recognized qualification. The course will include at least 20 guided learning hours, expanding up to 40 hours over the academic year. As they progress, students will become familiar with a range of AI technologies including image generation, content creation, automation and relative AI software, alongside which the ethical implications and importance of self-discipline for responsible AI use will be emphasised.

By training students in AI technologies and AI ethics, BWA will be able to prepare their students for a rapidly evolving job market that increasingly relies on artificial intelligence, such as AI specialists, data analysis and software engineers. Whilst understanding AI and its ethical implications will develop responsible young minds that will be able to create and manage AI systems that are both effective and ethical.

John Bell, Founding Principal of Bloom World Academy, underlines the importance of this initiative: “In an era where AI is rapidly transforming every aspect of our lives, it is crucial that we equip our students with the knowledge and skills to not only use these technologies but also to innovate and lead in their respective fields. Our commitment to carefully integrating AI into our curriculum reflects our dedication to preparing our students for the future, facilitating their ability to change the world through informed and ethical use of technology”.

The introduction of this initiative at Bloom World Academy aligns with the visionary efforts of Dubai’s government, who recently announced a pioneering programme aimed at training teachers in the use of AI and its applications across schools in the Emirate. This forward-thinking approach underscores Dubai’s commitment to embracing AI as a transformative force in education and beyond, fostering a generation of students and educators equipped to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. Furthermore, Dubai’s recent appointment of 22 chief AI officers to spearhead its high-tech drive further highlights the Emirate’s dedication to advancing AI capabilities across sectors. By introducing the AI BTEC to the core curriculum, Bloom World Academy is not only responding to the government’s call but also aligning itself with Dubai and the UAE’s strategic vision to lead in AI adoption and innovation regionally and globally.

Shikha Datta, Parent of Grade 9 student at Bloom World Academy added:“I fully support BWA’s Artificial Intelligence education strategy. In an ever changing world it is essential that our kids have access to all the cutting edge technologies and BWA is very proactive in incorporating these in their syllabus. This will not only further our children’s careers but also shape the future of the world.”

With this initiative, Bloom World Academy continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing a progressive and relevant education that meets the needs of the modern world. The new AI offeringis a significant step forward in ensuring that BWA students are not only consumers of technology but also innovators and leaders in the digital age.
