Star International School Mirdif, a bespoke British curriculum school in the heart of Mirdif, has announced its newest facilities, including its state-of-the-art STEAM+ Makerspace, Art Room, and Science Labs, alongside the launch of its GCSE/IGCSE and BTEC programmes this academic year.
As technology evolves, it remains vital for schools to offer a curriculum that provides an advanced learning environment, technology support, and design education. Along with its latest facilities, and as part of Star Mirdif’s ongoing strategy to maintain its position as a leading educational institution, the British Curriculum school has launched its IGCSE and BTEC education programs and STEAM+ Curriculum.
The STEAM+ Curriculum provides students with a platform to discover existing global issues, establish a solution and develop a plan to address their concerns while receiving mentorship and guidance. The cutting-edge STEAM+ Curriculum has enabled students to experiment within the fields of robotics, design, and blue sky thinking technology. Keelan Gallagher, the STEAM Department Leader, comments, “It has been a great experience to design a space dedicated to collaborative working, promoting awareness among students of Global issues and introducing them to the latest advancements in Technological Education.”
Since the launch of the STEAM+ Curriculum, the students have delved into subjects such as ecosystems, pollution, and recycling, and are in the midst of developing fascinating prototypes with the sole purpose of collecting waste from polluting the oceans. The + represents the ambition to go beyond and offer a STEAM Curriculum with Enterprise, Innovation, and Life Skills embedded into the curriculum. Students will launch a business as part of the international Tycoon competition. Students are allowed to design products and solutions to the world’s greatest problems aiming to save the planet and our human race. Star Mirdif is also embedding vocational qualifications such as food safety and head and safety to enhance the wider curriculum. The aim is to bring Awe and Wonder to students across the school and prepare them for the world of tomorrow.
The diverse range of subject matters covered during a science class demands an array of specialist equipment and often requires various facilities. Star Mirdif’s Science Lab equips students with a streamlined learning experience allowing efficient use of materials, reducing delivery times, and the ability to conduct further experiments without equipment restrictions. The Star Mirdif’s Science Labs launch will provide greater access to advanced learning, future tech, and a creative space for collaboration and education.
Principal Neal Oates comments, “We are dedicated to further investing in our facilities to provide a world-class, educational experience for our students. With the launch of our new world-class state-of-the-art facilities, we will continuously strive to guide our students to reach their full potential and trust they will enjoy our newest additions”.
