Middlesex University Dubai celebrated the United Nation’s ‘International Day for Tolerance’ – honoured worldwide on 16 November, through a host of thought-provoking activities on 12 November 2019, at its Knowledge Park campus.
“In line with UAE’s vision and year 2019 being celebrated as the Year of Tolerance, we wanted to engage and spark a discussion around tolerance, being a university with more than 3,400 students representing around 100 different nationalities,” said Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Middlesex University Dubai.
“It’s important for students to realise the opportunity they have, studying at the heart of the multi-ethnic metropolis that is Dubai. It’s a great platform for them to learn and grow with an international outlook,” he added.
Organised by the University’s Taskforce on Happiness and Wellbeing, the event saw a range of engaging activities such as inclusivity talks, tolerance poster competitions, a tolerance themed ‘Citizenship Theatre’, cultural booths, dance performances, message and mural wall for messages of tolerance by students and many more competitions which saw eager participation from students across departments.
The Taskforce on Happiness and Wellbeing at Middlesex University Dubai was set up to promote happiness, positivity and mindfulness amongst students and staff. Such initiatives include awareness days, fitness classes, mental health seminars and weekly wellness sessions which take place throughout the year.
